Don’t Turn Your Compounds Away!
Create more free time for your
pharmacy technicians / pharmacists!

Strathcona Prescription Centre is your Compounding and Repackaging Pharmacy dedicated to helping your pharmacy help your patients.
Under new legislation, you may now contract Strathcona Prescription Centre to prepare difficult or labour intensive compounds for your pharmacy.
We will deliver compounds to your pharmacy for re-dispensing to your patients.

Pharmacy Team
Our compounding team consists only of certified pharmacy technicians. Each have post secondary training through Red Deer College or equivalent and / or AB Pharmacy Technician Certification. All dispensary and compounding activities are supervised by pharmacists. Our pharmacists are also available to answer and research your compounding questions.

Quality Assurance
Strathcona Prescription Centre has made every effort to ensure the highest quality compounded medications are prepared by using at minimum USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) grade active pharmaceutical ingredients (API). All compounds are double checked by two Certified Pharmacy Technicians and the final check is performed by one of our pharmacists. Each of the inactive and active pharmaceutical ingredient(s) are weighed and a printout of the weight is recorded and attached to each prescription with the respective lot number of the API(s) or corresponding DIN(s). Data entry and check is performed by another pharmacy technician. The completed compound is finally checked by a pharmacist. A detailed audit trail has been established to ensure and verify quality assurance.

Sterile Products
To ensure the safety of personnel in your pharmacy, we have obtained a Biological Safety Cabinet Class IIA (“chemo hood”) for cytotoxic medication preparation. Examples include methotrexate or sodium aurothiomalate (Myochrysine) prefilled syringes.
Strathcona Prescription Centre also boasts a Class 10 Laminar Flow Hood in a Class 10 Clean Room designated for preparation of sterile products such as injections (e.g. clysis, palliative medications, Vitamin D3), and specialty ophthalmic / otic preparations. An autoclave is also available for sterilization of compounds and equipment.
